Music has the ability to create movement. It is up to us to choose which direction we move in. These orchestrations of voices and other instruments lift us up, drop us down, keep us a float and keep us going when it seems so hard to continue. Music is a million different things to a million different people and is one of the most accessible forms of spirit on the planet. Medicine music is no different except that it inherently has the prayers, codes, intention, vibrations, or structure to elevate, connect, heal and help dissolve boundaries and promote healing and connection. Medicine Music above all seeks to unify, to be something greater than ourselves and to draw out the very best part of ourselves. In the case of Sanskrit and Yoga based mantras, these medicine songs have survived well over 5,000 years and are still being actively chanted by billions around the globe today. These songs are evident in secular and nonsecular channels. These songs come in every language and are thriving throughout the indigenous cultures of the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia and throughout the great Pacific. These songs were born in ceremony and have the power to help return us to ceremony to help restore balance. It is no mistake that these songs are still with us today and more accessible than ever before in the age of digitized music sharing. We are here to celebrate this music, help preserve the music, and share the music as a healing gift to all children for their children.
Stay tuned as we will be highlighting the different types of Medicine Music as classrooms/nations contribute to it.
